Daphnopates, Theodore

Daphnopates, Theodore
   Writer; eparch of Constantinople (qq.v.) during the reign of Romanos II (q.v.). His correspondence is an important source of information about Byzantine domestic and foreign affairs, including relations with Symeon of Bulgaria (q.v.). He wrote biographies of several saints, compiled excerpts from the writings of John Chrysostom (q.v.), and may have authored the last part of the chronicle of Theophanes Continuatus (qq.v.), as well as the Bulgarian Treaty (q.v.).
